AIA Top 10 Green Projects for 2015

Last month the American Institute of Architects (AIA) announced the recipients of the AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects for 2015. This annual awards program recognizes exceptional examples of sustainable architecture and ecological design. Administered by AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE), the program is considered the industry’s premier green building award, and has honored nearly 200 projects since its inception in 1997.

This year’s portfolio includes a diverse range of structures including private residences, medical establishments and commercial spaces. Recipients of the 2015 AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects are:

CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory (Ontario, Canada)
Collaborative Life Sciences Building for OHSU, PSU & OSU (Portland, OR)
E+ // 226-232 Highland Street Townhouses (Boston, MA)
Hughes Warehouse Adaptive Reuse (San Antonio, TX)
Military Medical Hospital (San Antonio, TX)
New Orleans BioInnovation Center (New Orleans, LA)
Sweetwater Spectrum Community (Sonoma, CA)
Tassafaronga Village (Oakland, CA)
University Center – The New School (New York, NY)

The Federal Center South Building 1202 in Seattle Washington received an additional honor, the Top Ten Plus Award. This designation goes to past AIA/COTE Top Ten award winners who maintain verifiable baseline design metrics and performance data.

The AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects program recognizes structures that adhere to an integrated approach of architecture, natural systems and technology in order to protect and enhance the environment. Entries are examined based on their innovation, integration with local ecosystems, construction and sustainability for future impact.
