List ranks states based on the amount of LEED sq.ft. certified in 2013.

Earlier this month USGBC released its ranking of the Top 10 States for LEED in 2013, along with a beautiful infographic highlighting the achievements within each state. The list ranks U.S. States based on the amount of LEED certified sq. ft. per person over the past year.  The top states for LEED in 2013 were:

1. Illinois
2. Maryland
3. Virginia
4. Massachusetts
5. New York (tie)
5. California (tie)
6. Oregon
7. North Carolina
8. Colorado
9. Hawaii
10. Minnesota

Follow the links above to visit GBIG Place Profiles for each top ranked state. GBIG Place Profiles provide a snapshot of green building activity within a city, state, congressional district, or country. View LEED and Energy Star certification statistics, connect with case studies, find award-winning buildings, see metrics for walkability, transit access, operational energy efficiency, and more.

Don’t see your state listed above? Fortunately, GBIG includes profiles pages for more than 6,400 places around the world. Browse the list of places with the most green building activity here or search for your city, state or country here.

Note: Washington, DC – home to USGBC Headquarters – would have ranked #1 on this list (by a large margin) were it a state, but alas it is not. Perhaps DC should consider adopting ‘Certification Without Representation’ as the city’s new slogan?
